A solar tower is a kind of renewable-energy power plant. It's main function is to turn sunlight into energy that can be further used by people. When it was first thought up, German government funded the solar tower project. Believe it or not, the project is still in the making, and it the final costs of the project is said to end up equaling a total of $750 billion.

Solar towers are made up of many mirror-like objects that attract sunlight. These mirrors are called "heliostats." The heliostats work by focusing on solar energy using a receiver after being arranged into a field called collector areas. The picture shows an example of heliostats.

Solar towers work by generating hot air using a giant greenhouse and heliostats. The air channels through the tower's chimney. The air then begins to turn a turbine. This is how energy is made. The ability to generate using a solar tower depends on both the collector area's size and the height of the chimney.
