The original idea of the solar tower is one of those recent trends. The solar tower's existence has been around dating back to the 1980s and even before. More or less, the invention was made to turn sunlight into usable energy. In the year 1931, a German author named Hanns Günther wrote one of the earliest descriptions of the solar tower. If you think the idea of the towers are old, how about this: in 1903, Catalan Colonel of the Spanish army came up with the idea of the solar chimney.

The patent of the solar tower was applied for by Robert E. Lucifer in 1975. After that, the patents were accepted elsewhere. Some places the patent had reached and granted include Australia, Canada, Israel, and the USA. In 1982, a small model of a solar tower was made under the supervision of Jörg Schlaich, the inventor of the solar tower.
